A Performance Based Martial Art

That means your skill is measured by your ability to protect yourself.

About us

Glenroy Browne's Integrated Martial arts is a system that has been developed based on

a smaller person being able to survive against a bigger and stronger opponent in the ring or on the street.

Our Teaching Method is Based on:

  • Fundamental movements needed for self-defence.

  • Positions based on Strategic advantages and Posture & Balance ( Base ).

  • Strategies & Concepts ( Rules ) based on natural laws, opportunities in movement and each individual's own set of attributes.

  • All training is done with progressive resistance.

They say action speaks louder than words

We agree, we will back up any claims that we make.  This is not our ego talking

just common sense techniques and strategies.

Bio: Glenroy Browne

Glenroy Browne holds black belts in Taekwondo and Jiu Jitsu and has trained in many other styles like

Boxing, Wrestling, Aikido, Thai-Boxing and JKD.

When he opened his first school in 1989 it was based on street self-defence that means anything goes and all classes have always been taught with a lot of sparring involved, with a drive to find the ultimate form of self-defence.

What he has learned is that there are no ultimate styles just fundamental movements and concepts that work and then you add your own game based on your personal attributes.

With an understanding that as you age your game must change, due to age, injuries and a change in your attribute development.

As an instructor and a coach he has been teaching that an effective form of self-defence is an individual thing, not all techniques are for everyone, but the fundamentals are.

The most important thing in combat is strategy and an understanding of the techniques you are using to accomplish your objective and that is to win an event  or survive on the street.

" Concepts and Strategies may change, but the fundamentals never change "

The Fundamentals is the foundation for everything.

What is Martial Arts?

The ability to defend oneself, while developing good moral and social character.  Martial arts is not about learning how to beat someone up, but learning how to defend oneself effectively and responsibly.

Our curriculum is based on a smaller and weaker person being able to survive against a larger and stronger opponent.

Therefore, our mission is to develop your ability to defend yourself effectively based on realistic and functional self-defence skills.  While your training is in a supportive environment where improved performance, fitness, and fun are the results.

Remember self-defence is not about being a tough guy or to be the best fighter on the planet

it is about survival on the street where there are no rules.

If you want to see how tough you are then that is what sporting competition are for.

The arts that we draw the majority of our techniques from are:

  • Boxing, Thai-Boxing and Taekwondo for your Stand-up Game

  • Thai-Boxing, Greco and Free style Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu and JKD for your Clinch Game

  • Jiu Jitsu, Submission Wrestling and Catch Wrestling for your Ground Game

We do teach specific arts for those that want to compete in a certain style of combat or for those who just have an interest in learning a specific style of combat.  But what we emphasize are the fundamentals and concepts and this transcends styles.

We learn how to move like a boxer, strike like a thai-boxer, have a variety of kicks like a Taekwondo stylist, wrestle like a submission grappler, head butt, knee and elbow like a JKD  practitioner, with an understanding of using your opponents energy against him or her.

We train styles to develop the attributes we need for self-defence.

When it comes to personal self-defence your fitness level should not be that important, but the better your fitness level is the easier it will be for you to defend yourself.

The most important things in the art of self-protection is Intelligence and Technique.

If you lack these two then make sure that you are a well conditioned athlete.
